Assessment and therapy

In our first session together we will spend time discussing the issue that has bought you to psychology sessions.  Combining psychological theory with your story, together we will formulate an understanding of what the problem is and why, despite your best efforts, it has persisted. Following this, we will identify some solutions and strategies to help you overcome the problem. The remainder of our sessions will focus on helping you achieve your desired outcome, reducing your distress and helping you discover what gives you a fulfilling and meaningful life.  I offer both face to face and online sessions.  

 

Approach

My main therapeutic approaches employed include Cognitive Behavioural Therapy (CBT), Mindfulness and Acceptance and Commitment Therapy (ACT). However I also draw upon ideas from compassion focused therapy (CFT) and solution focused therapy.

I have also completed part 1 and part 2 of Eye Movement Desensitisation and Reprocessing (EMDR) training which is a therapy specifically focused for helping people process traumatic memories.   This approach can be recent memories or traumas which may have occurred many years ago.

Finally, I am also a specialist in pain management and fatigue. I can work in conjunction with your physiotherapist to help optimise your pain programme.
